Have you been touched by the plight of our oceans and the species that live in them? Blue Planet II has highlighted the issue of pollution cause by single-use plastic brilliantly. W2 has teamed up with Zero Waste Perth to host a community event and help people in Perthshire do something about it.
The problem
Our world headquarters are right on the banks of the Tay as it flows through Perth, we witness the extent of litter being washed down the river and out to sea every single day.
The solution
We decided to take action and host a community event to tidy up the banks of the Tay. We are collaborating with our Zero Waste Perth, Perth and Kinross Council and Beautiful Perth and are encouraging the community to come out for a community litter pick, at noon on Sunday 18th March followed by afternoon tea, at 2pm at W2 World HQ to say thank you to the volunteers.
Who is involved?
Fiona McBain from Zero Waste Perth said: “Many people now realise there is great urgency required to tackle the issue of single-use plastics and other litter, some of which unfortunately ends up being washed out to sea – a quick glance at the banks of the River Tay and the problem is evident. This is an opportunity for the people of Perth to get together and do something about it, and we’re delighted to be joining forces with a long-established local business to make it happen.”
Mel Morris, director of W2 Training, said: “We see so much plastic every day on the banks of our beautiful Tay it is heartbreaking. However at W2 we love a challenge and encourage people to step up, take leadership and responsibility for change and improvement. This is a great opportunity for people to come together, take action, have some fun and be part of the change we all want to see in this world. You will be warmly welcomed… and your pay for your effort? It will be soup, birthday cake and knowing you have done your bit to make a difference. “
How can you contribute and get involved?
Join us and meet at W2 Training HQ, Grange of Elcho, Rhynd, Perth PH2 8QJ, where there will be lots of parking available. The litter pick will take place between noon and 2pm and everyone will be welcome to hang out afterwards for soup and birthday cakes to celebrate our 25th birthday.
